Auctioneer

If you only ever install one World of Warcraft add-on I recommend Auctioneer.

To quote from the documentation here:

Auctioneer is an addon that allows you to view information about an item that may be useful in helping you determine what it's worth. Straight out of the box, Auctioneer knows much about many items in the game, and will tell you many things about the item when you move your mouse over the item in the game.

You will make more WoW gold by installing and using this add-on than just about anything else.

Recipes

Following on from selling manuals, there are a number of other items which can be purchased from vendors and sold for a profit in the AH. The manuals are nice because you can purchase unlimited quantities, but sooner or later somebody else has the same idea and competition drives prices down.

Some recipes can be vendor purchased but only in limited quantities. vendors will have only one or two of a particular recipe. As you travel to new zones, check each vendor for these limited items - most recipes can be sold for a profit.

These are some examples:

Pattern: Enchanter's Cowl - buy for 10 silver sells for 1 to 1.5 gold.

Pattern: Icy Cloak - buy for 15 silver, sell for 1 gold.

Recipe: Superior Mana Potion - buy for 1.2 gold, sell for 3 to 4 gold.

Plans: Mithril Scale Bracers - buy for 60 silver, sell for 1.5 gold.

There are many more recipes, all with similar profits. Far too many to list here. I honestly don't recommend traveling specifically to pick up recipes. As often as not, somebody will already have bought out the item. It is, however, definitely worth checking vendors as you pass and buying recipes for later sale.

Wired News: Warcraft Wonders of Tomorrow

Wired article on "The Burning Crusade" expansion. For some odd reason, the article wanders into a discussion of Warcraft cybersex. I've obviously been hanging around in the wrong zones.

Wired News: Warcraft Wonders of Tomorrow: "The new World of Warcraft expansion is just around the corner, and people are atwitter with anticipation. Two new playable races! A whole new continent! Flying mounts..."

Fishing

Fishing is one of those secondary WoW skills that many people just ignore. They think it's pretty boring. Well, actually it is a little but you can make 30 to 40 gold and hour at character level 20. Most of the fish you catch will be vendor junk but a few fish have tradeskill uses and sells well in the AH.

The first two won't make a lot of gold but are good for a little extra spending money while you skill up.

Oily Blackmouth sells for around 10 silver each on most servers. Best fishing spots for these are:

Menethil Harbor, Wetlands
Southshore, Hillsbrad Foothills
Zoram'gar Outpost Ashenvale
The Merchant Coast, The Barrens
Near Northwatch Hold, The Barrens
Baradin Bay

Firefin sell for 5 silver each and can be caught in many zones. My favorites are:

Blackwolf River in Stonetalon Mountains
Dreadmurk Shore in Dustwallow Marsh
Western Strand Fishing in Hillsbrad Foothills

One your fishing skill is well into the 200's, you can start raking in the gold. Fish for Stonescale Eel, the price depends on the server as always but 1 to 1.5 gold each is common. You can easily get 20 to 30 an hour fishing in these spots:

Bay of Storms in Azshara
Feathermoon Stronghold in Feralas

A special mention for Deviate Fish which sells for about 20 silver each in Horde AH and up to 1 gold in the Alliance AH on PvP servers.

The fish can be caught in any Oasis in The Barrens which is why fishing there isn't a popular pastime for Alliance characters on PvP servers. One little know fact however is that the Wailing Caverns instance is on the same fishing loot table. Once your Alliance character is 30+, you can happily zone into WC kill the 3 or 4 mobs in the entrance and fish all day undisturbed.

Manuals

I've been making a chunk of warcraft gold recently buying a few manuals from vendors and selling them for a big profit in the Auction House. Whay don't people just go to the vendors and buy them themselves? Good question. Ignorance or laziness I guess. These are all on the flight path for Horde or a short journey for Alliance.

Old Man Heming in Booty Bay in Stranglethorne has "Expert Fishing - The Bass and You" check http://www.thottbot.com/?n=4798 for exact location. This manual can be purchased for 1 gold and sells quickly for 1.5 gold.

Deneb Walker in Arathi Highlands http://www.thottbot.com/?n=578941 or Balai Lok'Wein in Dustwallow Marsh http://www.thottbot.com/?n=93812 sell these manuals:

Manual:Heavy Silk Bandage - buy for 22s sells for 1g.
Manual:Mageweave Bandage - buy for 50s sells for 1g.
Expert First Aid - Under Wraps - buy for 1g sell for 1.5g.

I can generally sell 3 or 4 a day of the bandage manuals, 1 or 2 of the others. Obviously only put the quantity you can sell in 24 hours in the AH

Gathering Professions

I'm sure most people have worked this out, but one of the easiest way of making gold at low levels is to take up either skinning, mining or herbalism. I usually do skinning and mining. Skinning doesn't make a lot per item gathered, but there are plenty of animals to skin as you level up. Light leather which can be gathered in abundance at very low levels sells for around 50 silver a stack on most servers.

Copper, Tin and Iron sell for a lot more but you will need to travel further to gather supplies. For mining, you can smelt the ores into metal bars and sell them in the AH. Check the prices in the AH before you smelt as sometimes the ore can sell for more than the bars. Once you get to higher levels, you will be gathering Thorium and Truesilver which will sell for 5 gold a stack or so.

Herbalism at high levels of skill can be lucrative but it's a little less rewarding at low levels.

Warcraft Gold Guide

I'm not generally a big fan of purchased WoW guides, but I'm going to make an exception for this one.

It's the World of Warcraft Cash Creating Guide and claims you can make up to 50 gold an hour using only legal strategies that won't get you banned.

Does it work?

Actually yes, there's a lot of great information in this guide. I was impressed and it certainly worked for me.

Click Here to check it out.

Enchanting

Well, specifically disenchanting can make some easy gold without ever leaving the AH. It works best on established servers, the older the better. Don't worry if this isn't a chosen tradeskill, just roll another character, get him (or her) to level 5 and get enchanting as a skill. Mail your new character a couple of gold to get started.

Look in the AH for green armor, it doesn't matter if it is cloth, leather or anything else. To start with look for items for level 16 or 17. These will disenchant into either Strange Dust (77% chance, up to 5) or Lesser Astral Essence (14% chance, 1 or 2) or Small Glimering Shard (rare). Check the price of these enchants in the AH and base your bid for the 16 or 17 items on the selling price of the enchants.

These are some examples taken from one server:

Strange Dust sells around 6 silver. Lesser Astral Essence sells for 30s.

Given these prices, the average disenchant value is about 23 silver. In practice, the quantities obtained are a bit higher, giving a disenchant value of 30 silver.

Bid or buyout anything less that 15 silver. Disenchant the armor and add the enchants to the AH for a 100% average profit.

Repeat and double your gold each time.

Once you have 10 gold or so, you can move onto higher level items.

This blog will be used to record ways to make lots of gold in World of Warcraft. It's aimed at lower level characters, say level 5 to level 30 or so. I've been doing this for a while on different WoW servers, so I thought I would share the best methods. I wil also list tthe latest gossip and WoW news.
